Completion 2012
Acanthus LW Architects were appointed to design a scheme for family housing on a derelict open site on the edge of Swaffham. Building on established residential use, the scheme comprises 340 dwellings (achieving a density of 32 dph), with predominantly family housing with 20% affordable.
The layout is based on a series of primary and secondary loop roads emanating from a new roundabout and site entrance, creating a variety of mews' and street character areas, interspersed with landscaped open spaces.
Architectural detailing and the choice of materials reflect the vernacular of the Breckland area of Norfolk. The landscape design accommodates existing trees and hedges and includes extensive surface water run-off features, integrating large ponds in landscaped open space..
The scheme has been designed to comply with Lifetime Homes and Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The site promotes ecology and sustainability throughout with inclusions of existing woodland, an extensive surface water run-off system and use of renewable energy to many of the dwellings.
