Oats Royd Mill
Luddenden by Acanthus WSM Architects for Oats Royd Mill consists of a group of Grade II listed large ninteenth century former industrial buildings, set in the open countryside and green belt of the West Yorkshire Pennines. The complex had suffered from fire damage and had been in only partial use for many years resulting in some of the remaining buildings being in very poor condition. An imaginative scheme was developed for the residential conversion of the former office building and two very large weaving sheds (one known as Acre Shed). The resulting scheme created 29 dwellings many with large conservatories and undercover parking. In addition to the conversion of these existing buildings, one of the former multi-storey buildings on the site is to be re-created by the erection of 21 new apartments. Planning permission and listed building consent have been granted, and the proposals have been welcomed by all the heritage bodies.
