Green Park Station Step Free Access
London
for Tube Lines
Completion 2010
A £48M project providing step-free access including new lifts and a new ramped access from Green Park into the ticket hall. A new copper and Portland Stone clad canopy fronting Piccadilly provides shelter for the lift entrance and a new staircase that runs from Piccadilly. Acanthus LW provided a co-located team to Tube Lines who were responsible for developing the initial design by Capita Architecture through technical design and site support for 18 months.
Acanthus LW also provided landscape architecture services. The project featured a green wall treatment to the new ramp and re-instatement works to Green Park and the streetscape of Piccadilly.
The planning approval process involved collaboration with artist John Maine RA whose work is featured in relief on the Portland Stone cladding and granite paving to the Piccadilly area of the project. The artwork collaboration involved consultation with London Underground, Westminster City Council, The Royal Parks, English Heritage, the Ritz Hotel and other local resident bodies.
