Inns Court
Bristol
for Bristol City Council
Completion 2006
Acanthus LW Architects are working with Bristol based Acanthus
Ferguson Mann Architects on environmental improvements and masterplanning
of Inns Court Estate in Bristol.
While the low density Radburn layout of the estate was generally liked
by the residents, the lack of a traditional street pattern, the open
access to the housing courts and the large expanses of functionless
grassed open space was identified as a major cause of crime and
security problems.
Following close consultation with the residents, proposals were
developed to improve the environment for the community in terms
of safe access, general appearance, fear of crime and security of car
parking.
The first eight phases of this 2.9m, 13 phase, project have now been
completed. Throughout the project all members of the design and
construction team have developed proposals through a partnership
learning from experience gained in previous phases.
