Greenwich
for London Borough of Greenwich
Completion 2007
Acanthus LW were commissioned by Greenwich Council to prepare proposals for the environmental improvement of Herbert Road in Woolwich. An ODPM Liveability Fund grant was used to undertake public realm works to four areas of particular environmental stress in the borough with the aim of creating cleaner, safer, greener and more sustainable local public environments.
Acanthus LW?s brief was to fulfil the aims of the Liveability Programme through extensive consultation with the local community.
Regular meetings were held throughout the design stage of the project to ensure that each stakeholder?s role and requirements were understood and to enable the proposals to evolve in consultation with the community, stakeholders, local councillors and the highways department.
The proposal set out to restore, where possible, the existing Victorian elements of the streetscape and through the use of sensitive modern interventions and a mix of reclaimed and appropriate new materials improve the visual appearance of Herbert Road.
